Born in Florida, Champ grew up in a working class family just outside of Flint, Michigan. Raised on everything from Sly and the Family Stone to Hank Williams, he discovered hip-hop at the tail-end of the "golden era" and got hooked. But growing up in the midwest at a time when racial tension was high, for Champ, rapping didn't seem like an option.

It wasn't until he moved to California in 1995 that Champ actually began writing and recording. Within a few months, he'd bumped into Statik, who became a close personal friend and schooled him to making beats, counting bars, and using a 4-track. Champ caught on quickly and by '97, he and Spider had already met in college and begun working together. Of course, Spider eventually introduced him to Just, a good friend from back home, and the group's foundation was laid.

As the emcee of the group, Champ's lyrics provide the substance of move.meant's music. His words touch on a wide range of topics and concepts, challenging the listener to think and grow. On occasion, Champ also lends a few guitar riffs to the production mix, on top of penning the lyrics and holding down the vocals.
